Miss Saigon Protested

I found this website about “Asian American Empowerment” and I read an article about the play “Miss Saigon”. The show came to Boston in 2005 and there were a group of Asian Americans protesting outside the theater. They were protesting the play because they said “that the show promotes all-too-familiar Western stereotypes of Asian women.” I have not personally seen the show but it apparently offends some people in the way they portray Asians, specifically Asian women. This group of protesters has developed a “counter production” to Miss Saigon in hopes that people will attend and see how stereotypical the show is. It’s a great thing to see people stand up for what they believe in, especially when they are a minority group in America. This makes me want to see the play just so I can see for myself is it really is stereotypical towards Asian women.
