Video Games and Stereotypes

The website I discovered was called Raph Koster’s website. This site talked about video games and their negative stereotypes in the media. Raph Koster is extremely involved in the world of video game creation and his website gives a lot of his work history and thoughts and feelings on video games. The site makes a solid point. The media makes a huge deal of violence in video games and creates a negatives stereotype for gamers. Video game making and playing is an art and craft. Individuals put a lot of time and commitment in these games and should not be portrayed in a bad light. What makes these video games so wrong? It is no different than many of these films that are produced for the world to see. It is the same thing for these audience members to distinguish right from wrong as it is for these gamers.

Clever, I am aware of the stereo typing with gamers and violence. The connection between movie violence and game violence was a very clever aspect of your blog post. Many people are after the video games for their violence but the TV shows and movies which have much more violence is not in the news for its content. And it seems the violence in film is getting worse.

  2. I agree that there is violence everywhere. video games, television films, music i have heard some getting a negetive wrap, i feel like it’s a parents porogative to examine and know about what there children are watching, listening to etc. Teens and adults know better, or should, but people are going to produce these type of things no matter what….it’s just a matter of the audience.

That’s exactly what I thought of when I read the first few sentences. I thought immediately about action films that have a lot of violence, why don’t they get as much attention as gamers?
