Cultural Differences

After looking back at these past few weeks of blogging, discussions, readings and papers, I’ve realized that I have learned a lot more than I thought and actually enjoyed it.  I never knew there was so many different thing that were interesting to find about global communications and other cultures.

One of my favorite assignments was the one where we had to look up etiquettes and other cultural rules associated with whatever country we picked. It was interesting to see how some countries do certain things at dinner while others do something else. Another thing I thought was interesting was how in one country waving might be a nice gesture and in a different country, waving might be a rude gesture. It’s good to know about a country before you travel there and learn theses basic “rules”.

I also liked the stereo types week. That was interesting to read about different stereotypes and how a lot of people thought of others automatically all around the world. Overall, I just liked the topics being discussed and found them having a point in knowing about others and how we see and communicate with others.

I also liked doing the etiquette assignment and seeing the differences between cultures. I remember I looked up French Etiquette and learned so many things about the French and how they eat to how they greet one another. This class really has opened my eyes to the many different types of people and cultures in the world.

I agree that the cultural difference assignment was the most interesting. I’ve done a lot of reading on cultural differences and social customs for other classes and it just so interesting and confusing to see how such simple gestures can mean such different things in different countries.
