International website

I chose to look at the U.S. McDonald’s website and then the India McDonald’s website. I’ve always been curious as to how McDonald’s has been successful in India even though the cow is considered sacred enough not to eat in that culture. Understandably, beef was removed from the menu before the launch of the restaurant in India, but I am still shocked that it’s international menu does not affect sales in India.

Upon going to both websites, the design schemes were complete opposite. The U.S. website is black and white with splashes of the original yellow and red McD’s colors strewn about the text. I feel that this website has a more professional and corporate feel than the India website. This website is completely red and yellow, and focuses more on menu and caloric values. The main home page has a complete table of all nutritional value of the entire menu. On the U.S. website, it takes some hunting to find the nutritional value table.

The technology and modernization of the two websites also seems very different. The U.S. website is fully interactive with many links and news bulletins. The India website is very basic, with no interactive capabilities and few links to related information.

  1. I feel like we are more interested in the internet-games-etc., so our website would be more “interactive” as the one in India is probably just for information. It, surprisingly, never occured to me to even wonder how/why they would have a McDonalds in India! If it was me, I’d be appauled to even support a place that prides themself on serving an animal for food that I was to think as “sacred”. Good idea for a post!
