Myspace US vs. Myspace Japan

So, at first I went to the myspace in Spain, and saw, that besides the languages, they were identical. So, naturally, I had to search for something a little more interesting. I decided on Japan. When I got to the site, everything looked the same, the set up and the colors as well as the sign in…but with Japanese characters, obviously. The only thing was, the more I scrolled down, the more I saw: the whole page was jam packed with different sections of music, movies, myspace TV (almost like a youtube), and scrolling advertisments at the bottom as well as the top. On the right, under the sign up, it has three additional boxes, which I can’t understand what their purposes are. It makes the whole page really confusing and clustered. It’s not very pleasant to look at.

Ours (The US one), has a “today on myspace” section and a “new to Myspace?” section, and the sign in, and a space for ads at the top. My browser automatically kept Japanese symbols continuing when I went to my myspace, which was interesting.

You can access the Japanese Myspace by going to a search engine and typing in “MySpace Japan”.

  1. MySpace is everywhere. This was a good idea just because its funny to think that MySpace has gotten so big it needs different country sign in’s. I was just thinking -I wonder if they are like on a different thing all together, like can they access people from the United States or just people from Japan? Just a thought.

    Hello -

This comment is for our final blog assignment. I decided to dig way back and comment on something we wrote before we were so able to “globally communicate” yet I found your blog to be true, and interesting on the topic of Japanese MySpace.

I took the opportunity to visit the site, and couldn’t agree more that the site itself is completely cluttered, confusing, and full of advertisements. It makes me appreciate facebook and all of its oversimplified glory.

This point also makes me think of a presentation I recently watched by a classmate in a different international class. She presented on the marketing aspects of Japan – and discussed how cluttered Tokyo is, with advertisements lighting up the city 24/7. She had personally been to Japan and said it was overwhelming, and caused her great anxiety when traveling through what she described “billboarded paths of Tokyo”

I sure hope that doesn’t happen to Boston, although we’re well on our way, I would hate to see the commercialization of every square inch.
